'Very nervous': Mikel Arteta admits he feared for 'super important' Arsenal player this summer
Source:Just a

Arsenal are ramping up for another Premier League title push and Bukayo Saka will be vital to Mikel Arteta's hopes of finally taking top spot.

The Gunners have pushed Manchester City all the way in the last two seasons.

Pep Guardiola's men have got the job done though, seeing off that Arsenal challenge in successive campaigns.

The new Premier League season is on the horizon now and Arsenal will be looking to launch another push for the title.

Arsenal are looking to secure one major signing to boost those hopes with HITC understanding that a deal for Bologna's Riccardo Calafiori has been agreed in principle.

The defender is nearing a move to the Emirates Stadium and will provide a major boost to Arteta's hopes ahead of the new season.

Arsenal will also need to rely on some of Arteta's more established players though, with most hoping that it's a case of third time lucky in the push for the title.

MORE ARSENAL STORIES

Odegaard has already dazzled in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Leyton Orient and will certainly be one of Arsenal's key men in the 2024-25 season.

The same goes for Bukayo Saka, though he will be coming off a strong Euro 2024 tournament with England.

Whether deployed as a winger or even as a wing back, Saka was one of England's most consistent performers in Germany this summer.

Saka's displays saw him hailed as a 'fighter' by Gary Neville, who believes that 'every fan from every club' will love Saka.

One moment over the summer summed it all up.

Saka stepped up to take a penalty in a shootout against Switzerland, three years since his spot kick was saved in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

That moment saw Saka receive ridiculous criticism and many will have been fearing similar backlash if Saka hadn't found the net.

Mikel Arteta was one of those, admitting to the Daily Mail that he was 'very nervous' upon seeing Saka step up against Switzerland.

Arteta has seen Saka score from the spot on so many occasions for Arsenal, but clearly still feared a repeat of the 2021 situation,

Arteta praised Saka's 'guts and determination' to score from the spot whilst highlighting his composure to find the net.

The Arsenal boss feels that Saka is a 'super important player' at Arsenal now and one of England's main players, seemingly delighted with his development.

"I was very nervous, it plays back in your mind a few years ago that moment but he showed a lot of guts and determination and composure to take it the way he did," said Arteta. "His role is constantly growing and evolving, he is a super important player for us and one of the main players for the national team," he added.

England coach Steve Holland showed his love for Saka after that penalty and it's clear that he is not only loved at Arsenal, but also up and down the country.

Saka is still only 22 and there should be plenty more big moments to come with both Arsenal and England.

Arteta will be proud of Saka's displays for England, but will now want his full focus on Arsenal with the Premier League title up for grabs again.
